Playful Puppy Learning Ideas

Every page in the Playful Puppy Busy Book has been designed to support learning and/or imaginative play. Here are some ideas that you can use to assist your little ones learning journey.

1. On the Seasons page children can have discussions about what season it currently is. What is outside? What do the trees look like? Are there many flowers? Is it hot or cold?
Other discussions that you can have with your little one:

  • What is your favourite season? Why?
  • What animals are there in each season?
  • What is the weather/temperature like in each season?
  • How do we dress for each season?
  • What activities can we do in each season? Eg. Swimming at the beach in summer

Match the felt pieces with the trees and seasonal animals/plants. Are you able to take the buttons on and off?

2. On the tic-tac-toe page, children can think of strategies and be a critical thinker by coming up with solutions on how to get 2 in a row. Have discussions on how children can think ahead. What is their next move?

3. On the clock page, children can play with the time and its minutes!
Discussions and conversations that can be made:

  • What time is breakfast?
  • What time do we go to daycare?
  • What time is bed time?
  • Have discussions about the order of events during a day and why we need to complete routines daily.

4. On the bunny page, children can practise using their first aid kit to check bunny's temperature, hear his heartbeat and give him medicine. It is important for children to recognise what doctors and hospitals do.
Have discussions about:

  • Why/when do we see a doctor?
  • Why/when do we go to a hospital?
  • Feelings of seeing a doctor, do you get nervous or scared?
  • When do we take medicine? Who gives you medicine?

5. Rainbows: Discover your tactile and sensory skills by moving the zippers whilst singing the rainbow song!

6. Birds: The birds are perched on the fence, can you get the birds to the correct coloured birdhouse? How many birds are there? Name the colours

7. Fishing: Find your underwater friends and go fishing. Play with a peer and see who can catch the most fish whilst singing "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, once I caught a fish alive"

8. Hands: Count and practise subtracting, addition, and explore the world of numbers. Use the hands to help you solve the equations
