Busy Bees Learning Ideas

Busy Bees Learning Ideas

Every page in the Busy Bees Busy Book has been designed to support learning and/or imaginative play.

Here are some ideas that you can use to assist your little ones learning journey.

1. On bees page, children can practise counting and make sure they all get back to the hive safely.
Other ideas and conversation starters:

  • Why are bees important?
  • How is honey made?
  • Discuss what happens when a bee visits a flower
  • Discuss the role of the queen bee and her worker bees

The possibilities and conversation starters using this page are endless.

2. On the Mr Potato Head page children are able to explore emotions by changing Mr Potato's features. Is he happy? Is he sad? Learning about emotions is a critical key learning area for all children. Children will continue to learn about self-regulating emotions all the way through to adulthood and having conversations about them from a young age will help them to become resilient. Help your little one to become familiar with emotions and their correct terminology so that they can tell you how they are feeling
Discussions that can be started:

  • What makes you frustrated or angry?
  • What can you do to calm yourself when you are feeling frustrated?
  • How can we be empathetic and mindful of other peoples feelings?

3. On the farm page, children can play with the idea of where food comes from and how they are harvested.
Discussions that can be made:

  • Where does food come from?
  • How does food get to shops from the farm?
  • How is a vegetable different to a fruit?

4. On the letters page, children can play with letters and make words. Practise spelling words/names and say them aloud to practise your phonics skills.
Conversations to be made:

  • What is your name? What is mama's name? Practise saying your name with your child. Should your child ever be lost, it is important that they know their own names, as well as carers names.
  • How do you spell your name?
  • Which letters are consonant letters?
  • Which letters are vowel letters

5. Bees: Count the bees and make sure they all get back to the hive safely. Which bee is the Queen bee?

5. Mr Potato Head: Explore emotions by changing Mr Potato's features. Is he happy? Is he sad? Become familiar with emotions and their correct terminology so that you can tell your carer how you are feeling.

7. Laundry: Wash and hang the socks, then hang the clothing. Don't forget to iron your clothes!

8. Shapes: Match the shapes using snap-on buttons. Count the edges and sides. What colour are they?

9. Buckles: Practise tying your shoes and opening and closing buckles/harness'.
