Marvellous Monkeys Learning Ideas

Marvellous Monkeys Learning Ideas

Every page in the Marvellous Monkeys Busy Book has been designed to support learning and/or imaginative play.

Here are some ideas that you can use to assist your little ones learning journey.

1. On the weather page, children can go outside or look outside the window to look at the weather. You can have discussions with your child about rain, water, sun, temperature and even plants and how the weather plays a big role in helping plants role. Children can place the clouds, sun and/or rain on the blue felt. They can adjust the thermometer and have discussions with siblings and carers about feeling hot/cold.

Other ideas and conversation starters for pre-schoolers:

  • Go outside and to look at plants. Are the leaves green or brown? Have discussions on which plants need more water.
  • Do animals need water?
  • How does rain form?
  • How can we conserve water?
  • Where does tap water come from?

The possibilities and conversation starters using this page are truly endless

2. On the clock page, children can play with the time and its minutes! Open the blue flaps to discover what minutes correlate with which number.
Discussions and conversations that can be made:

  • What time is breakfast?
  • What time do we go to daycare?
  • What time is bed time?
  • Have discussions about the order of events during a day and why we need to complete routines daily.

3. On the dinosaurs page children can explore dinosaurs.
Interesting discussions that can be started:

  • Where did they go?
  • Why are they extinct?
  • What causes animals (or plants) to become extinct?

4. On the caterpillar page children can learn about different foods; healthy foods vs non-healthy foods.
Conversations that can be started:

  • What foods are good for insects and animals?
  • What are some healthy foods we eat?
  • What are some treats that we eat?
  • What foods do we eat during special occasions such as birthdays, and why?

5. Watermelon: Match the watermelon seeds with the numbers

6. Monkeys: Use the finger puppets and sing along to "5 little monkeys jumping on the bed". Count the numbers and place them in chronological order.

7. Rainbows: Match the colours of the rain drops to the rainbow.

8. Hands: Practise counting, adding, subtracting with the help of moving fingers.

9. Clock: Learn the time and its minutes! Open the blue flaps to discover what minutes correlate with which number.

10. Dinosaurs: Blast into the past and discover dinosaurs. How many fly? Are they meat eaters? How many can swim?

11. Under the sea: Discover the underwater world. How many ocean animals are there? Where is Dory hiding?

12. Trees: Pick the oranges off the tree and place them into the basket. How many are there?
